A rare V-type with beautiful pyramidal crystals!
Micrometeorite [NMM 3662] is a classic black V-type (vitreous, glass). It has a beautiful conical crystallization in the front, triggered by a shiny nickel-iron metal bead. But the most fantastic feature of this little Space rock are the numerous pyramidal crystals growing out from the glass. The phenomenon is described in the Atlas of Micrometeorites as the “soap bubble effect”, where individual and isolated olivine crystals grow in the still molten glass independent of the main crystallization in the front. A future textbook example. The surface has beautiful bluish oxidation, so this stone has it all!
The stone was found August 22, 2022, at Skedsmo, Viken, Norway.
